FIE: Foundation for International Education

Tuscania, Italy

Discover Italy Through Exciting Coursework

Tuscania is a unique historical and cultural centre ideally suited for serious students seeking to experience directly the nature of Italian culture: the vibrancy and creativity of the contemporary world combined with a pervasive sense of continuity with the past.

For this reason, FIE and Lorenzo de Medici have designed an academic program that combines classroom study with field experience. The city of Tuscania is the campus of the study centre where close interaction with the inhabitants is an integral factor of the total experience. Tuscania is a very special location: a small city with a medieval centre wherein students live and study. It is rich in Etruscan and Roman history as well as being a centre for the contemporary arts with practitioners drawn to its physical beauty and very special atmosphere.

Tuscania, with a population of about 8,000, is in the region of Lazio and is about 90 minutes from Rome and 25 minutes from Viterbo. Field studies opportunities include visits to the major cities of Italy and direct exploration of Etruscan and Roman remains. The location offers students easy access to Rome as well as to other major centers of culture, history and entertainment. The city is served by a comprehensive and efficient bus service.

Students are not required to have any previous Italian language experience, and courses will be taught in English.  All students are required to study Italian language as a part of their program.
