Anders is originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota. His deep belief that education can facilitate global citizenship and understanding has led him on a career in issues relating to immigration and refugees. He has a BA with honors in history from Beloit College and an MA in sociology from Binghamton University. After undergrad, he worked at Chicago's Heartland Alliance helping recently arrived refugees and asylees find employment. In 2014 he traveled on a Fulbright to Bangladesh, where he conducted a self-designed ethnographic research project on the social and political integration of Rohingya refugees. He ended up staying there for two years, teaching at an international school in Dhaka. Before joining FIE in September of 2017, he taught elementary school at a charter school largely serving immigrant families in the South Bronx. In his free time, he enjoys exploring London's restaurants and neighborhoods.
