Dublin What to Pack 2020WHAT SHOULD I PACK?

Please see our handy What Should I bring to Dublin document on this page.

WHAT SHOULD I NOT PACK?

Ireland has different local laws than the USA. As such, common items that remain illegal in Ireland that may be legal at your home university include:

WHERE IS MY RESIDENCE?

The Dublin residences are spread around the city with some north of the river and some south of the river. Depending on your residence, you may be within walking distance to your classes or you may have to take public transportation to and from classes.

Our FIE Dublin team will ensure you have the information you need to get around town once your housing has been assigned. Please check the Helpful Maps section on the Arriving in Dublin page for an overview of where our residences are.

WHEN WILL I FIND OUT ABOUT MY HOUSING PLACEMENT?

You will be notified of your housing allocation approximately 30 days prior to arrival.

CAN I MOVE INTO HOUSING EARLY? LEAVE LATE?

Your housing is available for the duration of your program only and FIE cannot cater for early arrivals or late checkouts.

WHAT TIME CAN I CHECK IN TO MY RESIDENCE?

You will receive an email from our FIE Dublin team approximately 30 days before your arrival with details on when you can check into your residence, which can vary depending on your housing assignment.

IS BED LINEN PROVIDED?

Bed linens, a duvet and a pillow is supplied. You are responsible for laundering your bed linens during your time in Dublin.

WHERE CAN I BUY...?

Need to buy groceries/towels/toiletries/cell phones/sim cards? There are a plethora of stores in the local area, all a comfortable walk from your residence.

See our handy guide at the top of this page for further information and a map of local stores!

CAN I STORE MY LUGGAGE WITH FIE BEFORE OR AFTER MY PROGRAM DATES?

FIE will NOT store your luggage for you before or after your program dates. If you are planning on traveling before, during or after your stay with us, you may have luggage and/or items that you don’t really want to drag along with you. Most rail, airline and coach terminals in Dublin offer some sort of storage for luggage (often called “left luggage”). These facilities are generally operated by businesses that are independent of the stations, airports, so be sure to pay attention to their terms of storage and particularly their hours as they may be different from the stations’ or airports’ (as in not open 24 hours, 7 days a week!).

WHERE SHOULD WE GO OUT ON OUR FIRST NIGHT?

We recommend that students get a good night's rest as we have a busy orientation week planned for you!
