FIE offers unrivalled, life-changing study abroad programmes for US undergraduate students in the UK, Ireland and Spain. We create active educational experiences that expand minds, foster cultural intelligence and open up exciting future opportunities. We are a values-driven community, invested in making a difference. We advance sustainable thinking, enabling students to positively impact their community, society and the wider world.

FIE London is currently seeking to contract qualified, enthusiastic, and confident sessional instructors to teach undergraduate courses in Art History in Fall 2025.

The ideal instructor will have a relevant postgraduate degree, doctorate preferred, in a directly related field and have experience of teaching at the undergraduate level. Experience teaching American undergraduates at a range of levels is preferred as FIE classes are delivered to undergraduates from a variety of institutions, predominantly American universities. Experience teaching Foundation level courses or similar is also of particular interest as the contract may involve teaching on our first-year programme. Faculty are responsible for all aspects of course preparation, teaching, and assessment.

FIE’s courses are designed so that students can actively participate in their host country’s culture. All courses are supported by co-curricular activities (field trips, site visits, guest speakers, interactive experiences) that foster community connection and understanding. By discovering and experiencing knowledge beyond the classroom students shape their own perspective of the world. Anyone who teaches for us must be willing and eager to use the location of London in creative ways, incorporating experiential components as part of their teaching delivery strategy.

Our signature art history course, Understanding Art Through London's Collections, uses London’s extensive galleries and collections to trace the development of modern and contemporary art. It introduces students to a variety of art forms and media as they consider the development of art from the traditional paint on canvas to video art and installations. It also challenges students to consider trends in art history, looking at art and museums through the lens of post-colonial, feminist and queer studies. The faculty leads students on guided tours (galleries, museums, installations) for roughly half of the contact hours.

A catalogue of all our courses is available to download here, as well as a course outline for Understanding Art through London’s Collections .
