Husam is currently finishing his PhD at SOAS. His thesis argues that modern intellectual Islamic thought represents Nietzsche’s concept of nihilism, whilst the thought of Ibn Al-‘Arabi represents Nietzsche’s concept of the transvaluation of values (an overcoming of nihilism).
Husam has been a Senior Teaching Fellow at SOAS and KCL, teaching various undergraduate and postgraduate modules on Islam and contemporary Islamic thought and practices.
Husam’s primary interest is in the evolving relationship between religion and ethics. He is also interested in the role of religion in contemporary societies, particularly concerning religion’s significance in current social and political issues within Middle Eastern societies.
