Christoph Knöpfel, PhD

Educated in the UK, Germany, and France Christoph has trained as a composer, pianist, and musicologist. As a performer, he has specialized in contemporary avant-garde genres and as a composer, he has established a portfolio of works performed in various European cities. He has completed a PhD in the philosophy of music and is active as a researcher on critical and poststructuralist theory in relation to compositional theory. He is the recipient of various prizes and scholarships from institutions including the AHRC and the Paul-Sacher-Stiftung in Basel and has held positions in Further and Higher Education. Christoph teaches theory, aural skills, and composition at the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music.
