Elisa is a Doctor in Film Studies, and during the last five years has been teaching and researching film and media at the University of Sussex. She graduated in Media Studies and Journalism at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, studying a year abroad at Roehampton University. In 2012, she moved to the UK to do an MA in Film and Film Cultures at the University of Leicester with a Santander Scholarship Grant. She completed her PhD in 2021 at the University of Sussex. Her thesis, ‘Bodies, Taste and Pleasures: The Cinema of John Waters’, traced a queer and cult studies overview of Waters’ filmmaking career that re-evaluates the critical consensus about shock value and transgression. She is currently working on the book of her thesis. Her research interests are drag performances, nostalgia, humor, and star studies.
