EMERGENCY INCIDENT RESPONSE PLAN
All students are sent a copy of the Spain Emergency Incident Response Plan, which is reviewed regularly by the Emergency Incident Review Group (EIRG). EIRG consists of senior managers and department heads from across FIE and convenes at least once a year.
Invoking the procedure is at the discretion of EIRG and a Senior Leadership representative based on the assessed threat to our Madrid and Barcelona based students' health, and welfare.
COMMUNICATION
All students should have a reachable cell phone and must submit their number to FIE during their application process via the application portal
Students should also check their emails regularly and keep FIE informed of any changes to their email address. For other communique, we recommend that students look out for alerts from:
- Spain Government Foreign Travel Advice
- US State Department TravelAdvisories - US citizens/nationals are also encouraged to register with the Smart Traveler Enrolment Program (STEP)
- Foreign Embassies and Consulates in Spain
MAJOR CRITICAL INCIDENTS
In the rare event of a firearms or weapons attack, the advice is to:
- Run to a place of safety – this is a better option than to surrender or negotiate – if there’s nowhere to go then…
- Hide - remember to turn your phone to silent and turn off vibrate – barricade yourself in if you can
- Tell the police by calling 112 when it is safe to do
If you are in in the vicinity of the Major Critical Incident, follow the guidance of relevant officials (e.g. fire marshals, event security, paramedics). If you are not in the vicinity, follow guidance and seek updates from official, credible sources.
