Travel like a Londoner! At a cost of approximately £6, this is the least expensive and easiest route to take from Heathrow Airport.
All students, regardless of their student residence, should follow the signs to the London Underground (tube) and take the eastbound Piccadilly Line (dark blue).
We recommend purchasing a paper ticket for a single journey to your destination - shortly after arrival, you will receive an Oyster card to use on London transport at registration.
Students living at Hyde Park Gate, Manson Place, Metrogate, Queen's Gate or The Crofton, take the Piccadilly Line to Gloucester Road.
Students living at King's Cross House , take the eastbound Piccadilly Line to King's Cross St Pancras station.
You can view a tube map here.
The most expensive route is to take a taxi from Heathrow. Prices for a licensed black cab from Heathrow start from £45. This is costly, but if you are sharing a cab with another student or have heavy luggage, you may find it worth it.
You can also book a minicab service, but DO NOT take a cab without a meter unless you have called ahead to book the car service. One service that we recommend is Green Tomato Cars. For more information about taxis from Heathrow, please click here.
The Heathrow Express Train runs every 15-minutes from the airport to Paddington Station. Current prices can be found on their website. You will then need to make your way from London Paddington station to your residence, either by tube or taxi.
On the tube, you can take a number of routes depending on your residence. Take the Circle Line (yellow) or District Line (green) for Gloucester Road. Take the Hammersmith and City Line (pink) or Circle Line (yellow) for King’s Cross St Pancras. We recommend purchasing a paper ticket for a single journey to your destination - shortly after arrival, you will receive an Oyster card to use on London transport at registration. You can view a tube map here.
Follow signs at Gatwick Airport to the trains. Take the Gatwick Express Train from the airport to London Victoria Station - trains leave every 15 minutes and current prices can be found on their website. It is advisable to ask which platform you need to wait on, as Gatwick is a mainline station with many platforms and trains to various destinations.
From London Victoria Station, you can take a tube (approximately £5) to either Gloucester Road or King's Cross St Pancras (depending on residence, see top of page). For Gloucester Road, take the District Line (green) or the Circle Line (yellow) and for King's Cross St Pancras, take the Victoria Line (light blue). It is then a short walk from the tube station. If you choose to take the tube, we recommend purchasing a paper ticket for a single journey to your destination - shortly after arrival, you will receive an Oyster card to use on London transport at registration. Students checking in at Metrogate House or The Crofton may also choose to take a short taxi from London Victoria station.
Although Gatwick is farther out than Heathrow, it is a simple process to get into town. A taxi from Gatwick Airport will be extremely costly so we do not recommend this option.
