Medical Services

From time to time (but hopefully never!), you may require medical attention while abroad in London. Below are a list of medical services you might need to use - these can also be found on the FIE local area map

ACCIDENT & EMERGENCY (A&E)

For life threatening emergencies, call 999 for an ambulance or make your own way to the nearest A&E department - the closest to FIE's Kensington Campus are:

Things to note:

  • At busy times for the ambulance service, it may be quicker to take a taxi to the nearest A&E department (if you are able to)
  • If you are hospitalized, please notify FIE and your insurance provider as soon as possible

NHS URGENT TREATMENT CENTRES

For urgent medical attention that is not life threatening, you should visit one of the centres below. The services below are free and there is no need to make an appointment, you can just walk in during their opening hours:

 

Parsons Green NHS Walk-in Centre

Is an Urgent Treatment Centre the right service for me? When to visit an Urgent Treatment Centre

 

Things to note:

  • Both of these centres can be reached easily by tube, but you may need to take a taxi if you don't feel well enough
  • Treatment at these centres is free, but you will need to pay for medication if prescribed - the current NHS prescription charge is £9.00 per item

 


GENERAL PRACTITIONERS (GPs)

GPs treat a range of symptoms and you may need to visit them before being reffered on to a specialist. We have relationships with the following GP services:

 

DocTapDoctap

DocTap is a private GP service offering same/next day appointments at any of their 12 clinics across London. Standard appointments start from £49 and our nearest clinic is:

As part of your FIE application, you will be asked whether you would like to be registered with DocTap. If you agree, FIE will register you before you arrive in London, so that you're able make an appointment at any time throughout your program should you need to!

Things to note:

  • DocTap offers private GP services - many insurance providers, including Endsleigh, will not cover the costs of private medical services
  • FIE will be able to see if you've made an appointment with DocTap, but all other information (e.g. reason for the appointment etc) is confidential
  • Medications can be prescribed at DocTap, but prices will likely be higher than the standard NHS prescription charge
  • In order to complete your registration, FIE needs to share your name, email, date of birth, and gender (as it appears on your application) with DocTap

 

Emperor's Gate GP Surgery

A short walk from Foundation House, this GP sees our students on a private basis. Appointments cost £60 and appointments must be made in advance.

Things to note:

  • When making an appointment with Emperor's Gate, state clearly that you are studying with FIE: Foundation for International Education
  • Students covered by FIE's Endsleigh Travel Insurance can make a claim back for Emperor's Gate GP costs over the £25 deductible/excess

  • Once connected, you’ll speak to a highly trained adviser, supported by healthcare professionals
  • They’ll ask questions to assess your symptoms and direct you to the best medical care for you
  • Have your London address and mobile number to hand
  • If needed, you can use a phone in the Student Life Office on weekdays or the Facilities Support Desk at Metrogate House on weeknights and weekends
